Gardening with Meema!

Today, we got to go to  Meema’s house for a fun time when after church was done.

Most of the time, we played in the water on her huge, beautiful lawn and also did some eating, but the thing I enjoyed doing with Meema was helping with her in the garden!

Earlier in the day, we went to the store to get some compost to help her garden grow. After that, I played on the slip-and-slide with my crazy sister.

After I had cooled down enough, it was time to help Meema with planting!

First, we turned over the dry soil with a garden fork ( it reminds me of when my dad tilled the rows in the garden) To make it easier to plant.

Then, Meema started to plant the other plants while I was planting the tomatoes. I tipped the plant over. Then, it fell out of its pot in a square shape. Then, I made a big hole in the high planter to fit the giant plant. That was when you covered the plant ( it wasn’t how we usually plant tomatoes at home, but it was a lot of fun to learn a new technique!) When I got to these big tomato plants that were weirdly packed, Meema helped me unpack them since they were tricky to get out.

When we were done planting in the tin planter beds, we got the bags of compost to add to the soil. Meema opened each of the three bags and began layering the compost in the garden beds.

When we were done planting, I assisted in watering the planters. Meema helped me get the watering wand out and the hose on the other side of the fence. Then, I watered the planters until they were all nice and soaked.

After that, we were tired from the hot, blazing sun, so we took a little break and drank some refreshing water.

It was such a special time to spend with my Meema in the garden!
